We loved the recent 60 Minutes profile https://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50138327n of David Kelley, a pioneer in design thinking and CEO at IDEO. His approach is one that we emulate. At its core is one simple idea: Empathy.

What does this have to do with energy or building performance?

Energy efficiency is never just a mechanical problem. To deliver building performance (and return on investment) for our clients, we try to understand their values, the ways they use their home and workplace, what’s important to them. Building science and the ‘numbers’ by themselves can’t generate more than an average solution – or more than an average experience.

Bringing knowledge and empathy together is the secret. Our perspectives include engineering, architecture, construction, building science and public relations. We each orient our knowledge toward our clients’ needs to create what we call an ‘energy efficient design’. At the core of every project are the relationships that we form with each other and with our customers. We are all on the design team at Better Building Works.
